Recently an article appeared in the Times-Union regarding the closing of CR 100E in the next couple of years for the airport runway expansion.

The economic growth of the Warsaw/Winona Lake area is something we all can be thankful for. Other communities would love to experience some of what we are experiencing. However, as a life long resident of Kosciusko County living to the northeast of Warsaw, I am concerned with the closing of CR 100E by this expansion project.

CR 100E is a major traffic artery north and south. Many people use it to travel to and from work. Closing CR 100E or not creating as good of an alternative route around will put extra traffic on 15N. There only exists a few north/south routes one can take.

Even if 15N is widened many will feel the affects of this route closing. CR 175E is not direct and needs upgraded as well as CR 300N and CR 350N between CR 100E and CR 175E. These routes will cause many to have to go out and around out of their way taking extra time. What about quick access for fire protection and ambulance services? What about school bus access?

A suggestion or two might be to see if after the runway is lengthened CR 100E could be looped around or tunneled under (probably too costly). And in the meantime while given considerations to going around or under with CR 100E, could our commissioners and county council members plan on upgrading these roads (CR175E, CR 300N, and CR 350N between CR 100E and CR 175E), maybe even straightening some out and adding some intersecting roads to help with the loss of a direct route through? Lets think and plan ahead so as to be prepared.
