AKRON - Clifford Newsome Sr., 68, of 7772 S. CR 1300W, Rochester, died at 9:38 p.m. June 1, 2007, in the emergency room at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, after a sudden illness.

He was born Nov. 20, 1938, in Hihat, Ky., to Perry and Nolia Sword Newsome. On Aug. 23, 1958, in Langley, Ky., he married Julia Ann Bentley, who survives.

He worked at Midwest Spring, Mentone, for 38 years, retiring in 2001. He was the moderator of the Little Alvie Church, North Judson, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth Dale (and wife Kelly) Newsome, Warsaw, and Cliff Jr. (and wife Lesa) and Phill (and wife Tammy) Newsome, both of Mentone; four grandchildren, Joshua (and wife Alysa), Michele Lynn and Trenton Allen Newsome and Laura Beth Clevenger; two brothers, Cornelius (and wife Judy) and William Lee Newsome, both of Warsaw; and a sister, Zelvia Newsome, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, three brothers and five sisters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Preachers Russel Hicks, Estil Hamilton and Lowell Mullins officiating. Burial will be in Sycamore Cemetery, Mentone.

Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with a church service at 7 p.m.
