Richard Monk, owner of a 12-lot mobile home park, offered to pay $1,500 on a wastewater bill of $4,500 the town says he owes. Monk and three major wastewater customers – Louis Dreyfus, Symmetry Medical and Claypool Elementary School – were undercharged a total of about $27,000 after a 2011 rate adjustment was not implemented correctly in the town billing system, council heard last month.
The town sent letters to the four utility customers telling them that it can legally seek to recoup the under-charged fees. The other three customers haven’t responded yet, council heard Monday.
Monk told council he feels that he’s in a different position from the other three, since he’s on Social Security and uses the trailer park to supplement his income. He also observed that he pays his bill on time every month.
Council members Tom Burnworth and Niki Miller said they were OK with Monk’s offer.
“I can see his point of view,” Burnworth remarked.
Also Monday, council passed a parking ordinance revision that restricts parking on South Main Street between Section and Calhoun streets to downtown business customers during business hours, and that prohibits parking from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. between April 1 and Nov. 1. Fines are set at $25 for the first violation, $50 for the second and $75 for the third and subsequent violations.
And council heard that the townwide spring cleanup day is May 13. Details on hours and items that will be allowed will be given later.[[In-content Ad]]
