The Claypool Fire Department has been awarded a $35,800 grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
The grant money is to be used for training, fitness programs and equipment.
Larry Neher is chief of the all-volunteer fire department.
The grant program is designed as an opportunity for the U.S. Congress to work with FEMA to enhance basic fire service delivery, according to U.S. Congressman Mark Souder, R-Ind.
This is the eighth round of grants in 2003; so far, 1,700 fire departments have received more than $108 million in grant money.
Fire departments can apply for eligible activities in one of four areas: training, fire prevention, emergency medical services and vehicles. [[In-content Ad]]
