The town of Claypool received the word on the water grant for $425,000, which will be used to buy more advanced water meters.
The new system, called H20 radio, is an automatic meter reading system that sends a low-powered radio signal from a unit connected to the water meter. This system is more accurate and also will prevent the meters from being misread or unread due to weather conditions.[[In-content Ad]]Bob Murphy, from R.P. Murphy & Associates, spoke out, congratulating the town on the good news, and presented a solution for the flood and drainage problems of Claypool.
"Our storm water system is very out of date and worn," he said.
Claypool completed a storm water drainage plan three years ago and now believe it is the time to take it into action.
"We need your help, any issues you have with flooding or street run off document it," Murphy said. "Send us pictures and letters, they won't believe just us."
The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs will be in Claypool at 1 p.m. Thursday to review some of the problems.
The railroad sent the board a letter stating that they wanted to make a private access road from Church Street to CR 200 with a sign stating, "For private purposes and emergency uses only."
The most controversial part of this letter was that, "If a train derails the person who gets hit is liable."
They also said they wanted to own 50 yards east and west of the railroad. The council tabled the letter, stating that they would review it in various board meetings.
There will be a special public meeting June 2.
