Claypool Clerk Treasurer Thomas To Move, Resigns After 12 Years
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
CLAYPOOL - Shelly Thomas met with the town council as clerk-treasurer for the last time Monday.
Thomas, appointed to the office, began serving as clerk in January 1991.
Thomas and her husband, Phil, recently purchased Highland Hills Golf Course and she intends to spend a lot of time at the business, three miles south of the Ind. 15 and Ind. 114 intersection.
The Thomases will move out of Kosciusko County, closer to the golf course.
Deloris Rose has been appointed clerk-treasurer by Democratic caucus. She, like Thomas, will set up office at her home, 105 E. Section St. The town's telephone number will stay the same, 260-566-2910.
Council members heard that the grain elevator will be removed by the end of June, per an agreement with Norfolk and Southern Railway made years ago.
The railroad closed four out of nine railroad crossings in town. Removing the delapidated grainery was part of the 1999 deal, along with warning lights and gates at two crossings and $25,000 that the town used to build an access road from Church Street to CR 200W.
The council also adopted a new ordinance regarding parking on South Main Street, between Section and Calhoun streets.
Parking is to be for patrons of the restaurant, the post office and beauty shop on Main Street. Fines are $10 for the first offense, $25 for the second and $50 for the third.
The next meeting will be June 17 at 7 p.m. to allow the town council members to attend the Warsaw School Corp. board meeting June 16. The school board is expected to discuss closing the Claypool Elementary School.
In July, the board will return to meeting the third Monday of each month.
Town council members are Don Miller, Niki Lincoln and Don Nehrer. [[In-content Ad]]
