He was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Sevierville, Tenn., to Ruben and Mary Shepherd Hatcher. On Oct. 6, 1946, he married Sinia Faye Hatcher, who passed away Dec. 15, 2010.
He had been a resident of Kosciusko County since 1965. As a young boy at the age of 13 years old, he worked in the coal mines in West Virginia and Tennessee; he had also worked for a number of years at Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Mich.; Clausing Lathes in Warsaw; and he retired in 1990 from Sea Nymph Inc., Syracuse. He was a member of Living Hope Ministries of Warsaw, loved to play Wii Bowling and enjoyed outdoor activities.
He will be lovingly remembered by his four daughters: Jean E. Sturgill, Warsaw; Jacqueline Hatcher, Leesburg; Kathleen (and spouse Gary) Kilbourne, Pierceton; Vicki (and spouse Curtis) Holle, Bloomington; six sons: Darrell Hatcher, Leesburg; Larry (and spouse Connie) Hatcher, Pierceton; James (and spouse Ann) Hatcher, Leesburg; Rick (and spouse Ginny) Hatcher, and Nick (and spouse Connie J.), all of Warsaw; Steven Timothy Hatcher, Columbia City; 43 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers: Nick (and spouse Mary Alice) Hatcher, Florida, and George (and spouse Betty) Hatcher, Leesburg; and two sisters: Linda Cardwell, Tennessee, and Betty Berkey, Winona Lake. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Living Hope Ministries, 595 E. CR 350N, Warsaw, with Pastor Wedstel Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow at Oswego Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
