City Studies Bids For Curbside Recycling

Curbside recycling bids from Ameri-Waste, Stafford's Solid Waste Management and Waste Management were opened at the Friday Warsaw Board of Works meeting.
The contract starts April 6 and ends Dec. 31, 2004, with the city providing storage "bins" for recyclable materials.
Ameri-Waste presented the lowest bid with services costing $7,420 per month or $148,400 for the 20-month contract.
Stafford's bid was $265,072.50 for the same period, with single-sort pickup, including glass. Waste Management's bid totaled $307,680.
The submissions were taken under consideration. The contract award will be decided at the March 7 board of works meeting.
The board also approved a payment of $830,015.50 to Indiana Construction Corp./Corporate Construction Inc. for work at the second wastewater treatment plant. With this payment, $6.3 million of the $10.4 million contract has been paid.
Also approved was an escrow account payment of $92,228.
A contract with Jones & Henry Operating Services for an additional Class II or Class III operator was approved for employment at the Boggs Industrial Park wastewater treatment plant.
In other business the board:
• Approved Resolution 2003-02-03 to incorporate Lakewood Hills Drive, 0.14 miles; Channelview Drive, .05 miles; and Baythorne Drive, .06 miles, into the city.
• Tabled for the second meeting, an operating permit for Fast Cabs Inc. At the Feb. 6 meeting. city attorney Mike Valentine expressed concern about the liability insurance policy certificate amount - $100,000 - saying it should be considerably higher. Valentine did not attend Friday's meeting. His associate, Bill Fawley, had no information regarding the item.
• Approved Merrell Bros. of Kokomo to haul and dispose of bio-solids at a rate of .0815 cents per gallon.
• Approved a 20-foot easement agreement between Leisa M. Green, 2127 Brookview Drive, and the city in the amount of $2,000. The agreement is part of an ongoing process to secure easements for the interceptor project, part of the second wastewater treatment plant project.
• Approved a deposit for an appearance by Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad in the amount of $6,250. Farner is the headline act for the city's Classic Rock Concert June 20. The remaining balance for the 75-minute concert is $6,250.
Also approved was a 10 percent commission check to Kevin Roberts Entertainment in the amount of $1,250 for GFR's booking.
The Summertime Blues Band, June 6, $500 concert contract also was approved.
• Heard from Laura Kaufman of Housing Opportunities of Warsaw that the organization has been awarded another owner-occupied rehabilitation grant in the amount of $300,000.
• Approved the travel requests of Linda Beall and Craig Warren and appointment of Robert Sanders to the aviation board.
