A final payment, $226,656.10, release of retainage and a change order of minus $14,649.50 was approved for Indiana Construction/Corporate Construction a Joint Venture of Fort Wayne for work at the CR 150E wastewater treatment plan in Warsaw.

Board of Works members said Friday that the final contract sum was $10,828,405.50, up from the original amount of $10,592,150.

Employees at risk of coming into contact with untreated sewage will be offered free hepatitis A vaccinations for their protection, as recommended by human resources director Jennifer Whitaker. She expected that this would cover some street department and a few wastewater treatment plant employees.

City employees working in high-risk jobs are already offered bloodborne pathogen training and a series of hepatitis B vaccinations for their protection at no cost.

The hepatitis A shots cost $17.75 per dose, and two doses are recommended.

Fire chief Matt Warren said he is planning to have surgery next week and recommended that assistant chief Ed Kipker assume the duties of chief.

The board also:

• Approved an administration fee of $15.70 per month per covered employee be added to the health plan as requested by Dunn and Associates, Columbus.

• Heard COBRA costs for former employees have been reduced to $302.14 for single policies and $747.75 for family; and $308.18 for retirees on single plans and $762.71 for family plans purchased by retirees.

• Reviewed a revised employment application.

• Asked for a new letter of credit from Biggs Inc., Decatur, for an additional amount of $25,000 to cover installation of utilities and improvements for the Harrison Landing subdivision.

• Hired Gabriel Balazs as cemetery groundskeeper full-time and Marlin Cox as equipment operator for the street department full-time; and part-time employees Joshua Volkert and Thomas Hutchison for the street department's leaf crew.

The board also approved fire department promotions of Kerry Stogsdill to captain and Dave Vercauteren to lieutenant.

• Approved a release of lien for mowing at 522 S. McClellan.

• Approved a facade grant improvement at 119 S. Buffalo St. for WAWC-FM, Hoosier 103.5.

Board of works members are Mayor Ernie Wiggins, Jerry Patterson and Charlie Smith. The board meets the first and third Fridays of each month at 10:30 a.m. in city hall. [[In-content Ad]]
