City Reviews Water Utility's Main Replacement Projects

Warsaw City Council Monday reviewed information on the Indiana American Water main replacement projects.

The projects to install water mains have been ongoing in Warsaw on Chestnut and High streets since September.

Chris Harrison, Indiana American Water operations manager, said in a letter to the council the projects are moving along smoothly and are nearing completion.

Nearly all of the new water mains have been installed, pressure tested and bacterial tested to meet IDEM regulations.

Upcoming construction activities will mainly consist of service connections, sidewalk restoration, asphalt repair and yard and grass restoration.

The contractor also will seed the areas and mulch as required to hold the seed down.

Also during the meeting, Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins said the council will discuss cuts to the 2008 budget at its Dec. 15 meeting.

Councilman Joe Thallemer said he met with Winona Lake Town Council President Joy Lohse to see if the town would be interested in being in a fire territory with Warsaw and Wayne Township.

The council also:

n Approved transferring $500 from the Warsaw Police Department police salaries into police Federal Insurance Contributions Act funds. The purpose is to replenish funds that will be used to pay the city's share of social security and medicare for police officers out of the 2008 budget.

n Approved on first reading an amendment to the 2008 salary ordinance including the maximum biweekly salary for the assistant fire chief at $1,826.46; deputy clerk-treasurer at $1,615.38; and traffic commission administrator at a $65.38 biweekly salary.

n Approved a resolution for additional appropriations for the law continuing education fund of $3,146.62.

n Approved a resolution for an additional appropriation of $43,253.69 for the Warsaw Fire Department.[[In-content Ad]]
