Young graduated in 2007 from Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, with a bachelor's degrees in recreation management and business administration. She is a 2004 Warsaw Community High School graduate.

Young previously served as a recreation leader and intern for Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department in the summers of 2006 and 2007.

Her responsibilities included planning family and weekly programs, special events and concerts.

Young said she enjoyed interning at the Warsaw Parks Department. She said while serving as an intern at the department, one of her accomplishments was expanding the family carnival at Central Park.

"I enjoy serving people and giving them park and recreation opportunities," Young said. "I'm looking forward to bringing new programs to the area and being back in the Warsaw community because this is where I was born and raised."

Prior to returning to Warsaw, she served as assistant recreation supervisor from 2007-2009 at Brownsburg Parks and Recreation Department on the west side of Indianapolis.

Warsaw Parks Superintendent Jon Garber said Young is qualified for the job.

"She brings a lot of continuity and she is familiar with our programs and the people in the community," Garber said.

Young said she is looking forward to her new role as activities director and has many goals.

She said she would like to continue offering programs, events and concerts for the community that have been successful.

She wants to continue developing the Boggs Recreational Building into a year-round location for recreational opportunities for all ages.

She also wants to consider implementing specialized summer camp programs for various ages, and use more of the park areas for different programs to familiarize the community with parks system.

She also would like to look at opportunities for serving adults and seniors with recreation opportunities.

Young said she is open to residents who have activity ideas. She can be reached Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Boggs Recreational Building, 420 Little League Drive, or by calling her at 574-372-9558.
