Warsaw City Council Tuesday heard concerns from a Warsaw resident on a traffic bottleneck at the intersection of Parker Street and U.S. 30.
Mike Ragan, Warsaw, said there is a large bottleneck there at least twice a day.
“Sometimes the traffic is backed up almost to Center Street in the afternoon and cars have to wait several times for the light to change before you can go through the intersection,” Ragan said.
Ragan asked if there is a way for the yellow and green light to be longer.
“With all that is going on with the new Y, there also is a lot of traffic from Martin’s and it is backed up,” Ragan said.
Joe Thallemer, Warsaw mayor, said the city is aware of the issue.
“We are certainly aware of the concern there and any short term solution would be welcomed,” Thallemer said.
He said the city has been in contact with Indiana Department of Transportation and heard suggestions to lengthen the time the left turn arrow is on at the intersection.
‘The bottleneck is an unfortunate consequence of the geometry of the intersection,” Thallemer said.
Jeremy Skinner, city planner, said the city has had discussions about the intersection over the past three years with INDOT.
Skinner said INDOT has made sure every signal light on U.S. 30 is synchronized.
“If you go the speed limit through 30 you can almost make the entire stretch and get stopped by one light,” Skinner said. “From the way the lights were designed and the way it functions for traffic on U.S. 30 the lights work really well. Does it work well for Parker Street? No.”
Skinner said the city will again talk to INDOT but he thinks their priority will be to make sure traffic on U.S. 30 flows.[[In-content Ad]]
