City Budget

I have put off this letter too long because, according to the Times-Union, the city council reviewed the 2010 departmental budgets. It seems that everyone is proposing an increase. They should take a look at the economy.

The unemployment is still high, some places are not giving any increases in wages and some are reducing the work hours. Also, Social Security has announced that there will be no increase, but the medicine cost will increase, which in effect means all seniors will have less money to spend. So I believe that all wages for city employees should be frozen at the 2009 level and all spending should be held to a minimum.

Also, there has been some talk that the city is interested in buying the Water Works on North Buffalo Street. They have hired people to survey the area. At what cost? This is something that the Warsaw public should be aware of. My understanding is that the reason they want the building is to tear it down and build a new city hall for our mayor and others.

What is wrong with the present city hall? They moved the fire department three years ago then purchased the NIPSCO building and moved the police department there. And that property has plenty of space to use.

All taxpayers in the Warsaw city limits should talk with their council members to let them know your feelings of how your money is being spent. They should be saving your money instead of spending it.
