Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety Friday approved a salary ordinance for newly elected clerk-treasurer Lynne Christiansen.

Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins said it was his pleasure to welcome Christiansen, and he swore her in during Friday's meeting.

Christiansen, who previously served as Warsaw Police Department's records clerk, was elected to serve as Warsaw's clerk-treasurer during a Republican caucus Feb. 23 at city hall.

Christiansen replaces Elaine Call, who resigned to spend more time with her grandchildren. Call's resignation was effective Friday, and Christiansen's salary and duties begin today. Call served the city for 26 years.

Christiansen's salary as clerk-treasurer is $1,980.08 bi-weekly.

She originally was hired as the parking control officer and worked her way up to records clerk.

She said she does not plan on replacing the current clerk's office staff.

Christiansen, a lifelong Warsaw resident, said she feels her duties as records clerk will prepare her for her new role as clerk-treasurer.

In other business, the Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory board was approved to apply for a $4,000 2010 Indiana Homeland Security Foundation Grant.

WFD Chief Mike Rice said if the grant is awarded, the department plans to purchase a torch set with safety equipment, a concrete saw and shoring jacks for small space and trench rescues. The grant is reimbursable, and will be taken out of the fire territory operating supplies budget.

A $1,750 contract between the Institute for Public Safety Personnel and Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory was approved for written tests to be administered to those applying to be firefighters.

The board approved Warsaw Parks Department event contracts for Guitarist Michael Kelsey to perform June 11 from 7-8:30 p.m. in Central Park; University of Notre Dame Theater Department to perform July 30 from 7-8:30 p.m. in Central Park; and a contract with Creative Comedy Balloon & Face Art LLC for entertainment March 27 from 9-10:30 a.m. for the Brunch with the Bunny event.

Warsaw's wastewater treatment utility facility was given permission to attend four half-day training sessions in June. The training is part of necessary requirements that the staff maintain continuing education.[[In-content Ad]]The board also:

- Approved a $1,250 contract between LandGroup LLC and Warsaw for Buffalo Street corridor improvements.
