Victor Frankl in his book "Man's Search for Meaning" tells the story of two brothers with the same parents, same environment, same schooling.
One became a respected, influencial leader in the community; the other became a criminal, and long-term prisoner. Frankl said "Each man has within his power to choose how he will react to any given situation." Robert Browning said, "Thought is the soul of the act."
R.W. Emerson said, "Thought is the seat of action. The ancestor of every action is thought."
Too many people dream of sin, imagine sin, and if granted the opportunity, indulge in sin. Consequently, they sin, as our jails and prisons give evidence, to overflowing. All our transgressions begin with sinful thinking.
God has given us the power of choice. In choosing, there is the opportunity, there is risk, there is danger or blessing. For a young married couple the blessing of their first baby is real and exciting. They have honored each other before marriage, and thought and planned together toward the miracle of a new little gift from God to their family.
For a young unmarried couple the same story is fraught with guilt, dismay, and regret and sin. They made a choice. "As a person thinks in his heart, so is he." Proverbs 23:7.
Select with care the movies, magazines, the entertainment you choose; the friends, the environment you frequent. You should not allow sinful imaginations to accumulate in your mind and soul than you would let garbage collect in your home.
If God destroyed the world once for its evil imaginations, is it not reasonable to believe that all the sin, lust, and evil that is rampant today grieves His heart, just as it did then?
"Choose Thee this day whom you will serve. ... But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15.
