Bill and the former Barbara Lee Cleveland were married June 10, 1961, at Holbrook Community Church, Navajo, Ariz., by the Rev. Charles Luther Boss.
They were mainly music educators, performing musicians and a military family for 28 years. They incorporated a church camp and a symphony orchestra.
They met as university students at the music school of the University of Arizona, where they earned four music degrees.
The couple celebrated past anniversaries at Major League Baseball games: Yankees-Twins when Mantle was still fielding; Cub-Yankees in 2003; and Giants-Indians in 2011.
Raised in Chappell, Neb., Barbara graduated salutatorian of Holbrook High School in 1957.
Bill gradauted in 1956 from Warsaw High School.
They have two sons, William Charles (and spouse Cookie), Norfolk, Va., and John Marion, Mercer Island, Wash.; a daughter, Elizabeth Louese, Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
They celebrated with formal and casual weekend gatherings of the original wedding party in Tucson, a trip to San Francisco, then a family gathering later.[[In-content Ad]]
