Allowing Christ to Shine is planning its first annual chili dinner to raise funds for Haiti and the Salvation Army in Warsaw.

The chili dinner is at Lakeland Christian Academy cafeteria, 1093 S. CR 250E, Winona Lake, on Nov. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m.

The event will include chili, hot dogs, cookies, corn bread, water tea and punch. A silent auction is planned with items attendees can bid on including restaurant and retail gift cards.

The cost is $6 for ages 12 and older, and $4 per child.

Proceeds from the event will fund Allowing Christ To Shine’s work in Haiti, an orphanage and food program for children in Haiti.

Proceeds also will go to purchase turkeys for Thanksgiving for families the Salvation Army in Warsaw is serving.

The goal is to purchase 150 turkeys for Salvation Army clients.

The organization was started in January 2011 by Clark Shepherd after he visited Haiti following the earthquake in January 2010.

It is an organization dedicated to help the children in Haiti. The mission is to serve neglected and orphan children in Haiti. The objective is to help the children end the cycle of poverty by providing shelter for the children, education, life skills and food.

“We believe providing shelter, education, food, teaching the word of God and showing God’s love will transform their lives and transform their community,” Shepherd said.

The organization’s goal is to raise $2,000 to finish building a shelter and school for 25 orphans in Haiti; $10,000 to ship a container of supplies and 145,000 fortified rice meals; $6,000 for a well that would provide clean drinking water; and $5,000 to begin building a security wall around land in Haiti.

Shepherd and local builders Tim Merchant, Skyline Builders, and Jay Widman, Widman Builders, will travel to Haiti in November to complete the construction of the school and orphanage for 25 children that are currently living under a tent and sleeping on the ground.

Allowing Christ To Shine recently shipped out a container filled with more than 145,000 meals to help the orphan children and the food program that is helping three schools.

The organization also is sponsoring children at the orphanage and schools. Visit www.allowingchristtoshine.org to sponsor a child.[[In-content Ad]]
