Eddie Keenan, Warsaw, wants to bring awareness to those who have been victims of sex slavery.
That is why he has planned a chili cookoff benefit to raise funds to help those who have been victims of the senseless acts.
Proceeds raised from the event will go to Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
Keenan, 32, a 2011 Grace College management major, said he is planning a Charity Chili Cookoff Contest on Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Mad Anthony’s Lake City Taphouse, 113 E. Center St., Warsaw.
He is the son of Ron Westafer, Bourbon, and J.J. Webster, Plymouth.
He said he came up with the idea for the cook off  because he wanted to do something to help those who are sex slaves who can’t help themselves.
“The purpose of the event is to raise money for the fight against sex slavery and to gain awareness of sex slavery and its effects on society,” Keenan said.
He said the purpose also is to create an event where charitable minded people  participate together and bond, creating relationships and ideas that can help the community in later ventures.
People are needed to enter into a chili cooking contest to raise funds for the Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
To register to be a part of the chili contest or for more information call Keenan at 574-265-3466 or email him at [email protected]
Contestants who want to make chili will pay $10 to be a part of the competition, and there will be a three-judge panel.
The public can also come and donate money and come taste the chili and vote for the people's choice ribbon which will be awarded.
The winner of the chili contest will receive a free night stay at the Warsaw Hampton Inn, donated by Kathy Harper, Hampton Inn manger, where Keenan is employed, and a free dinner for two at Noa Noa.
They will also receive a trophy donated by Avery's, Warsaw.
Second place will receive a $25 gift card from Apple Bees and the second and third places will also receive a ribbon.
“It is important to throw this event because it is for a good cause and money will be made to help support a fight against the robbing of people's dignity and lives,” Keenan said.
