He was born Jan. 7, 1940, in Warsaw, to Charles W. and Wilma G. Norman Gross. On Jan. 20, 2012, in New Paris, he married June E. May Weaver, who survives in Warsaw. On Oct. 6, 1962, in Warsaw, he married Avis J. Graff, who preceded him in death Feb. 17, 2011.
He was a lifetime Warsaw and Syracuse area resident and attended Warsaw High School. He was the owner/operator of Gross & Sons Lumber Company for over 50 years, and formerly farmed.
He was a member of the Grace Bible Baptist Church in New Paris, Northern Indiana Johnny Poppers (formerly known as Two – Cylinder) Club, and former member of the Gideon’s International in Goshen.
Also surviving are six daughters: Dana (and spouse Les) Ridgeway, Amy (and spouse Don) Ritter, all of Milford; Shirley (and spouse Joel) Wallenbeck, Leah Gross, all of Syracuse; Rebekah (and spouse Matt) Gilbert, Ligonier; and Joyce (and spouse Jeff) Gilbert, Wawaka; two sons, Paul Gross, Syracuse, and Michael (and spouse Heather) Gross, New Paris; three stepdaughters: Dianna (and spouse Mike) Sopher, Gilead; Cris (and spouse Dan) Sweeny, Silver Lake; Shelly Thomas, Warsaw; a stepson, David Gross, Talma; 21 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; six step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and three brothers: Pete (and spouse Ada) Gross, Warsaw; Fred Gross, Stevensville, Mt.; Joe Gross, Syracuse. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Harris; and brother, Gene Gross.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Mike Gross of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
