He was born July 28, 1919, in Convoy, Ohio, to Forest O. and Eva Siders Sponseller. On May 2, 1941, in Pierceton, he married Vera Jean McGary, who died in January 1980. On Feb. 14, 1981, in Elkhart, he married Thelma L. Ulrey Maure, who survives.
He graduated from Tully & Harrison Township High School, Convoy, and attended International Design Engineering School. Moving to the Pierceton/Warsaw area from Convoy in 1940, he worked in the design drafting department at GE, Fort Wayne, during World War II. Serving the Tri-State area as an audiologist, he was a registered certified hearing aid dealer and owner of Sponseller Hearing Service, Pierceton, retiring after 50 years. He was a member of North Webster Church of God; Moose Lodge, Elkhart; and a former member and past master of Masonic Lodge 377, Pierceton. He formerly attended Pierceton United Methodist Church, where he served as superintendent.
Also surviving are three sons, Jeffrey C. (and spouse Barbara) Sponseller and Jerome L. (and spouse Kay) Sponseller, all of Pierceton, and Mark J. (and spouse Sue), Yorktown; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a stepson, Ron (and spouse Alicia) Maure, Elkhart; a stepdaughter, Sharon (and spouse Adam) Hawkins, Elkhart; and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 4 at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Dennis Judy officiating. Burial will be in Washington Union Cemetery, Pierceton.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
