NORTH MANCHESTER – Charles R. Shaffer Jr., 89, of Laketon, died at 12:30 a.m. April 10, 2013, in his residence.
He was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Wabash County, to Charles R. Sr. and  Adelia Louisa Moore Shaffer.
He was an extrusion die maker at General Tire and Rubber Co., Wabash, for 37-1/2 years, retiring in 1979. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1943-46. He served as a military police in Alaska and later served in the infantry with the 3rd Army under General George S. Patton. He was a recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge. After the war he served as provost sergeant with the 14th infantry regiment. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Manchester; The Fur Takers of America;   The National Trappers Association; American Legion Post  402, Laketon; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Indianapolis; Disabled American Veterans, Elkhart; and Moose Lodge,   North Manchester.
 Surviving are a son, Gary (and spouse Barbara) Shaffer, Fort Wayne; a sister, Marcia (and spouse Barnette) Wolfrum, LaFontaine; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister.
In honoring his wishes, there will be no services. Burial will be in Laketon Cemetery.
