MENTONE – Charles Russell Smith, 71, Claypool, (Yellow Creek Lake), died at 9:05 a.m. Oct. 8, 2015, at his residence where he had lived for over 45 years.
He was born Aug. 5, 1944, in Kosciusko County, to Roy and Bertha Holderman Smith. On June 6, 1964, in the Harrison Center Church of Etna Green, he married Di Anne Blackburn, who survives in Claypool.
He was a pressman at R.R. Donnelly’s & Sons where he had worked for 40 years. He was a 1962 graduate of Mentone High School. He then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Panama. He was a member of the American Legion Post 49, Warsaw.
Also surviving are one daughter, Michele (and spouse Scott) Fox, Warsaw; one son, Troy (and spouse Sandy) Smith, Warsaw; two grandsons, Chris and Brandon Fox; one sister, Carol (and spouse Mike) Engle, Warsaw; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter and John Smith; one sister, Wanda Simcoe; and a granddaughter, Courtney Fox.
No calling or funeral services will be held at this time by his request. Private family services will be held at the Mentone Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the American Legion Post 49.
King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, Indiana, is in charge of arrangements.
