He was born March 29, 1945, in Dwale, Ky., to Malcolm and Edith Hall Collins. On Sept. 5, 1969, in Clintwood, Va., he married Betty Prater, who survives.
They moved to Kosciusko County in 1985. He was a member of American Legion Post 49 and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in Vietnam for three years. He was in the National Guard for 13 years in Prestonsburg, Ky. He was a carpenter, building homes in Kentucky; worked at Gilbert Corp. as a tree trimmer; and retired from R.R. Donnelley & Sons as a material handler. He enjoyed fixing watches, hunting and was a Colts fan.
Also surviving are three sons: Charles David (and spouse Victoria) Collins, Curtis Ray Collins and Stephen Richard Collins, all of Claypool; five grandchildren; five brothers: Malcolm Holbert Jr. (and spouse Cora) Collins and James Curtis (and spouse Lou-Vada) Collins, all of Warsaw; Bill David (and spouse Martha) Collins and Floyd Donald (and spouse Pamela Sue) Collins, all of Prestonsburg; and Okie (and spouse Pam) Hall, Claypool; and three sisters: Shirley Faye (and spouse Jimmy) Martin, West Liberty, Ky.; Anita Gaye (and spouse Kenneth) Burchett, Allen, Ky.; and Bessie Sue Collins, Allen County. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Velva May Martins.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Bob Brown officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery with military honors by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1126.
