He was born April 7, 1933, in Argos, to Melvin Jarett and Gladys Carr. At age 11 he was adopted by Byron Carr. In 1982, he married Sandra Kautz Grow, who survives in Fort Wayne. They shared 33 years together.
He served our country in the Air Force during the Korean War Conflict. After an honorable discharge, he went on to work for the phone industry.
He retired after 37 years from United Telephone Company, Warsaw, as network maintenance supervisor.
As a member of the Warsaw Wesleyan Church, he went on to volunteer his services to Wycliffe Bible Translators. Charles, his family of five children and wife, served as house parents in Papua New Guinea for two years. They also helped out at the Hepzibah Children’s Home, Macon, Ga.
He enjoyed his retirement years with family, taking vacations, being with friends and just doing yard work and playing basketball.
Also surviving are five children: Kristina Carr, Arlington, Texas; CJ Carr, Washington; Michael Carr, Goshen; Rachael Carr Concord, N.C.; Moriah Barnes, Fort Wayne; three children from his first marriage: David Carr, Philippines; Diana Heckman, Warsaw; Deborah Williams, Muncie; three stepchildren, Darcy Marshall and Cheryl Anderson, both of Warsaw, and Mark Grow, Mississippi. From those children there are 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepchild, Darla Hamill.
At Charles request, his body has been donated to Life Legacy to continue medical research. A private graveside memorial will be planned at a later date.
