Charles E. Stephenson, 90, formerly of Lagro, died July 8, 2007, at Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake.

He was born March 19, 1917, in Tower, to David Martin and Virdie Watkins Stephenson.

On April 25, 1948, in Lagro, he married Edith Irene Kester, who survives.

He was owner and operator of Stephenson Groceries and General Store, Lagro, for 40 years, retiring in 1985. After retirement he moved to Chapman Lake, then to Grace Village. He served in the U.S. Army under General Patton in World War II. He was a 1935 Lagro High School graduate; a 67-year member of Lagro Masonic Lodge; a life member of Lagro American Legion; and a member of Kosciusko Community Hospital Senior Club and Chapman Lake Conservation Club. He attended Lagro Presbyterian Church and Winona Lake Presbyterian Church.

Also surviving are a son, David Lee Stephenson, Winona Lake; a daughter, Sally Ann McKenzie, Warsaw; a sister, Ava S. King, Lagro; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace Village Chapel with a reception following the service. Burial will be in Lagro Cemetery.

No calling are planned.
