ROCHESTER - Charles "Chuck" Walter Miller, 95, of 3534 S. Palestine Lane, Warsaw, passed away surrounded by his loving family at 2:15 p.m. April 30, 2008, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw.

He was born April 1, 1913, in Fulton County, to Carl and Maude Clarey Miller, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 13, 1937, he married Mabel McGowen, who survives.

He retired from Bendix Mobile Homes, Bourbon, in 1978. He continued to farm just outside Mentone until a few years ago. As a fisherman, he was delighted with fishing for bass and blue gill - relaxing at the pond on the family farm. Until three years ago, he could be seen in the neighborhood riding his bicycle - a feat for any 92-year-old, a gentleman with remarkable determination, balance, athleticism and pride.

It was in Lake Placid, Fla., where he and Mabel enjoyed more than a decade of the life of snowbirds. With great success, he fished the Gulf of Mexico for giant sheep head. He was a dominant force on the shuffleboard court and looked forward to attending spring training - cheering the boys of summer.

A lifelong, die-hard Cub fan, he and Mabel's 70th wedding anniversary was noted at the game, during the 7th inning stretch. As a sports enthusiast - he enjoyed watching golf, tennis, football and college basketball, in addition to his beloved Cubbies.

As a talented craftsman, he was a woodworker. He built custom whirly gigs, and a variety of birdhouses, including martin and bluebirds. Mabel would compliment the nature creations with her special painting and creative touches.

He was a faithful member of Talma United Methodist Church.

He will be missed. He leaves his family and friends to cherish his memory.

Also surviving are a daughter, Karen (and spouse John) Fleck, San Diego, Calif.; a son, Dennis (and spouse Teresa) Miller, Warsaw; five grandchildren: Paul (and spouse Teri) Fleck, San Diego, Calif.; Melinda (and spouse Patrick) Lynn and Michelle (and spouse Jeffrey) Clifton, both of San Jose, Calif.; David Miller, Miami, Fla.; and Darcy (and spouse Michael) Julian, Akron; 13 great-grandchildren: Tiffany and Tabitha Fleck, Jonathon, Joshua, Sarah, Benjamin, Katie and Rebekah Lynn; Alexander and Elyse Clifton and Aaron, Brittney and Jeremy Julian; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with the Rev. Jack Worth officiating. Burial will be in Rochester's IOOF Cemetery.

Calling is from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
