Charles A. Murphy, 78, of 320 W. Main St., Warsaw, died at 1:11 p.m. March 9, 2010, in his residence.

He was born Sept. 29, 1931, in East Saint Louis, Ill., to Albert Charles and Mary M. Lenear Murphy. On May 28, 1988, in Louisville, Ky., he married Shirley Coleman Susaraba, who survives.

Formerly of Elkhart, and a Warsaw resident since 1987, he retired from Chrysler Corp. in manufacturing and production. He was a member of First Christian Church and American Legion Post 49, both in Warsaw. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a CPL (T) in 445th Ordinance Co. in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Also surviving are three stepsons, David (and spouse Jodi) Susaraba and John (and spouse Kathy) Susaraba, all of Warsaw, and Nick Susaraba, Silver Lake; a sister, Pauline Hayden, Caseyville, Ill.; five grandchildren: Lauren, Christopher, Jonas, Sydney and Hannah; and three great-grandchildren, Caiden, Caitlyn and Camden. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon K. Murphy and James Murphy; a sister, Carol Sue Stevenson; and a granddaughter, Rebekah Lyn.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with Pastor Gary Boschain officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126 and the American Legion Post 49.

Calling is one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
