Charges were filed Monday in Kosciusko Circuit Court against a Mentone teen-ager accused of the Aug. 27 burglary of a Mentone business.

Uriah Michael Diemer, 19, of 205 N. Broadway St., faces charges of burglary, a Class C felony, and theft, a Class D felony, in connection with the incident at Sand's Mini Mart on West Main Street, where he was employed. A warrant has been issued for Diemer's arrest and bond in the case is set at $5,000.

According to court documents, police recovered $14,328 of the nearly $15,000 taken from the safe during the break-in. The money was found at the home of a Mentone juvenile, a former employee of the business who also was allegedly involved in the crime.

Diemer and the juvenile reportedly confessed to their roles in the incident during interviews with police. The juvenile is expected to be charged through the juvenile probation department.

The break-in was discovered early on the morning of Aug. 27 when an employee arrived to open the store for the day's business and found a door standing open. [[In-content Ad]]
