Lake City Bank walked away Wednesday from Warsaw's 85th annual Chamber of Commerce banquet with the majority of honors, for its business and for its employees.

Jean Northenor, senior vice president of LCB, was the recipient of the Chamber's first Athena Award, which recognizes community leaders who help women reach their full potential.

Northenor was honored for her advocacy of women in leadership positions in the community, for encouraging women in the political arena and for her support of the advancement of professional women.

Lake City Bank received the general business award, in recognition of more than 125 years of financial service to the Kosciusko County community and beyond.

The bank also was noted for its active involvement in the communities it serves and for encouraging its employees to participate in community service.

Paul Siebenmorgen, executive vice president of Lake City Bank, received the 1996 Man of the Year Award in honor of his involvement with youth-oriented organizations such as Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement and Kosciusko County 4-H.

He was also cited for maintaining a balance between dedication to his family, community service and professional accomplishment.

Kosciusko County Commissioner Avis Gunter was named 1996 Woman of the Year in recognition of her many years of service to Kosciusko County government and to organizations within the county.

Gunter, like Northenor, was noted for opening doors for women in government and public service, for acting as a role model for young women, and for "putting the needs of the community before her own."

The awards banquet also recognized businesses in different categories for their accomplishments.

Dekko Heating Technologies of North Webster, formerly Heaters Engineering Inc., received the Large Industry Award. Dekko's reputation for advancing employee education and for becoming involved in the smaller communities where its facilities are located were cited by award presenter Max Courtney as outstanding contributions to the area.

Receiving the Small Industry Award, Warsaw Engineering and Fabricating Inc. was noted by Courtney for quality service and employees, support of community projects and athletic programs, and its growth in 11 years from six to 55 employees.

Midwest Rake Company took the the Entrepreneur Award Wednesday. Beginning in a garage in 1990, the company now has 26 employees at its facility in Boggs Industrial Park, with sales of more than $1 million. "They don't manufacture rakes, they provide tools to many businesses," said award presenter Willis Alt.

Chamber President Charles Sparks also introduced the 1997 Chamber chairman, Bill Henthorn of Midwest Rake, and the incoming executive committee. [[In-content Ad]]
