NAPPANEE - Cathern "Kate" Christner, 92, of 952 W. Walnut, Nappanee, died at 9:35 p.m. Dec. 13, 2009, in Luann Nursing Home, Nappanee.

She was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Nappanee, to Frank and Eva Kring Slabaugh. On July 13, 1940, she married William Dale Christner, who died Jan. 8, 2009.

A lifetime Nappanee area resident, she was co-owner of Christner Oil Co., Nappanee, for many years. She was a member and active at Grace Point Presbyterian Church, Nappanee, and a member of Nappanee Order of the Eastern Star and the Thursday Club.

Surviving are a son, John (and spouse Judy) Christner, Middlebury; two grandsons; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Evelyn Watkins, Nappanee. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Point Presbyterian Church, Nappanee, with the Rev. Terry Tyler officiating. Burial will be in Hepton Union Cemetery, Nappanee.

Calling is one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, is in charge of arrangements.
