NORTH MANCHESTER - Catherine P. "Kate" Zile, 91, formerly of Silver Lake, went home to her Heavenly Father at 10:10 p.m. April 20, 2010, in Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

She was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Fredericktown, Ohio, to Clarence and Florence Syler Grubb. On Oct. 17, 1942, she married Lowell B. Zile, who survives.

She graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1936 and attended Manchester College. She was a long-time resident of Silver Lake until moving to Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, 2006. She worked for 16 years for Dr. P.H. Pierson at his Silver Lake and Warsaw offices. She then served as a medical transcriptionist for the former Murphy Medical Center and later Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. She was a long-time member of Center United Methodist Church, Silver Lake; a member of Ladies of the Lake Home-Economics Club; and was secretary-treasurer for more than 25 years of the Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake. She helped initiate and coordinate the Mobile Meals for the Silver Lake area. She was known as a very proud, caring and compassionate woman and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Also surviving are two sons, Dan (and spouse Beth) Zile, Wentzville, Mo., and Phil (and spouse Debbie) Zile, Silver Lake; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rita (and spouse Charles) Surland, Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Jean Grubb Renschler, North Manchester, and Betty (and spouse Dean) Zile, Monticello; and a brother-in-law; Gene Engel, Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Maxine Grubb, Carole Grubb Engel and Bernese Grubb Kinney; and a brother, Dwight Grubb.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at South Pleasant United Methodist Church, Ind. 15 and C.R. 1400N, (three miles south of Silver Lake), with The Rev. Sue Babovec and Pastor Terry Marker officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at South Pleasant United Methodist Church.
