Catherine L. “Barbara” Bradway, 77, of Warsaw, passed away at 3:09 p.m. May 10, 2011, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
She was born Jan. 8, 1934, in New York City, N.Y., to Ruby Schwertz. On Aug. 2, 1975, in Nappanee, she married Ward Bradway, who died Aug. 16, 2001. Previously, she married Thomas Gamble Sr. in Brooklyn, N.Y. He survives.
She was a bookkeeper, antique dealer and a model for Cashbox Magazine, New York City. She also was a manager for Rosalee Fashions and Manufacturing and was a stage dancer in New York City. She retired as a self-employed caregiver. She moved to Warsaw in 1974. She finished as runner-up in the Mrs. Indiana Beauty Contest. She was a member of Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are five children: Chet (and spouse Karen) Gamble, Bremen; Jamie Gianfrancisco, South Bend; Barbara Ann Mitchell, Lakeside, Calif.; David Bradway, Santee, Calif.; and Linda (and spouse Nathaniel) Waddell, South Bend; a stepson, Ben Bradway, Warsaw; two sisters, Denise Torres, Illinois, and Lenore Schwertz, Florida; 10 grandchildren: Thomas (and spouse Sheri) Gamble, Niles, Mich.; Stephen (and spouse Robin) Gamble, Madison; Travis Peterson and Sasha Peterson, both of Santee, Calif.; Shauna Peterson, Lakeside; Samantha Peterson and Brandon Peterson, both of El Cajon, Calif.; Billy and April Pressley, both of South Bend; and Stephen George, Leesburg; and 13 great-grandchildren: Hannah, Adin, Silas and Asher Gamble, all of Madison; Caleb, Micah, Corbin, Elijah and Malachi Gamble, Niles; Thomas Ward Peterson, El Cajon; Shay Peterson, Santee; and Naomi and Antonio Blackman and Alexandria Brooks, all of South Bend. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gina Gianfrancisco.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with minister Thomas Gamble officiating. Burial will be in Stony Point Cemetery, Leesburg.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
