AKRON – Carl Joe Rans, 82, North Manchester, and formerly of Akron, died at 5:25 a.m. Feb. 21, 2014, at Timbercrest Healthcare, North Manchester, after being in failing health for eight years.
He was born Sept. 15, 1931, in Fulton County, to Delbert Roy and Ethel Faye Rouch Rans. On Sept. 1, 1951, in LaPorte, he married Joan M. Brandenstein, who survives in North Manchester.
He was a retired dairy farmer and also worked doing custom bailing, seed corn salesman, and he also worked for MoorMan’s Feed. He worked for Jim Lewis installing Surge Milking Systems. He was a 1949 graduate of Kewanna High School. He attended the Akron Church of God. He was a member of the Akron Lions Club. He enjoyed bailing, milking cows, doing woodworking projects, square dancing and spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.
Also surviving are a son, Monte (and spouse Christine) Rans, Hesston, Kan.; two daughters, Connie Rudd, Valparaiso, and Carla (and spouse Roger) Wagoner, Claypool; a sister, Virginia Ruth Agnew, Kewanna; 10 grandchildren: Craig, Kevin, Beth, Brandon, Brianne, Blaine, Bryan, Scott, Cori and Sara; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers: Billy Richard, Harold, Hubert, Raymond, Delbert Jr., Paul, Lowell and Larry R. Rans; and four sisters: Helen Worl, Lois Bell, Ethel Stipp and Lorene Wood.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Akron Church of God, 301 S. West St., Akron, with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.
