He was born May 4, 1924, in Kosciusko County, to Amos E. and Mary Simison Homan. On July 4, 1948, he married Carole E. Swihart, who died in 1993.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a 3rd Class Shipfitter and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked in the shipping department at Parker Industries, Silver Lake, retiring in 1946. He was a member of American Legion Post 49, Warsaw, and Silver Lake Wesleyan Church, where he was a deacon.
Surviving are a son, Stanley Homan, Claypool; a daughter-in-law, Diana Yoder, Lafayette; six grandchildren: Stephanie (and spouse James) Billings, Alexandria, Va.; Rebecca Homan, Silver Lake; Gina (and spouse Jeff) Hofferth, Rochester; Jennifer Homan, Pierceton; Christina (and spouse Ed) Homan-Church, Wabash; and Cynthia (and spouse Mark) Reed, Warsaw; and 14 great-grandchildren: Marissa, Chanel, Nathaniel, Ethan, Elizabeth, Jared, Corey, Kaylee, Mickey, Carole Michelle, Madison, Jason, Makayla and Olivia. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Homan, who died in 1997; a brother; and three sisters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with the Rev. William Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Silver Lake, with military rites by members of the American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1126, both of Warsaw, and the Indiana ARNG Honor Guard.
Calling is from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
