He was born Aug. 8, 1938, in Floyd County, Ky., to Isaac and Virginia Scarberry Shepherd. On Oct. 8, 1955, in Emma, Ky., he married Lois Stewart, who died March 16, 1999.
Living in the Kosciusko County area for 48 years, he worked at Creighton Brothers for 40 years, retiring at age 65. He was an avid bowler, bowling at Holiday Lanes and Gilliam’s Lanes, both in Warsaw. He enjoyed the Colts, NASCAR especially Dale Earnhardt Jr., and the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball.
Surviving are three daughters, Sherry (and spouse Richard) Martin; Darla (and spouse Danny) Fifer and Ruby (and spouse Adam) Snyder, all of Warsaw; two sons, Carl E. Jr. (and spouse Carol) Shepherd, Silver Lake, and Tom Shepherd (and life partner Traci Benzing), Mentone; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Crum, Stephens Branch, Ky., and Jackie (and spouse John) Mahaska, Palestine; and two brothers, Ralph (and spouse Aileen) Shepherd, Mentone, and Charles Pedro Shepherd, Stephens Branch. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joe Ed and Doug Shepherd; and a sister, Lorene Griffith.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Thomas Craig officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
