June brings about summer, Father's Day and golfing.

And then there's the chance of sharing in a million dollars in the Fourth Annual Cardinal Center Million Dollar Hole-In-One Golf Shoot Out.

This year, the qualification dates are June 22-23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Locations include Little Bighorn, Pierceton; Maxwelton and South Shore, both in Syracuse; Swan Lake, Plymouth; Raccoon Run and Rozella Ford, both in Warsaw; and Sprig-O-Mint, Bremen. The finals will be held June 30 at 4 p.m. at Stonehenge Golf Course, Warsaw.

R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. is again the premier sponsor of the golf shoot-out. The shoot-out is a closest-to-the-pin competition benefiting Cardinal Center Inc.

Cardinal Center is a not-for-profit human service organization that provides services for people with disabilities in Kosciusko, Marshall, Cass and Fulton counties and for children with needs in Kosciusko County.

Proceeds from the event will be used for the Cardinal Center endowment to meet the following long-term needs: services for adults with disabilities; Healthy Families; Head Start; Women, Infants and Children; and First Steps.

In the competition, a specialized green area is set up on a driving range with the pin 90 yards from the tee. Participants compete by paying $1 for each golf ball they hit on June 22-23 for qualification in the finals. The event is open to the public.

The top five finalists from each site are determined based on the "closest to the pin" or "aces" during qualifications. Five finalists from each of the seven sites will advance to the finals at Stonehenge in Warsaw on June 30 to compete for the $1 million prize. During finals, each golfer tries to hit one ball at the 125-yard hole. Any finalists making a hole in one on the hole in the finals June 30 will share equally with Cardinal Center Inc. The golfer will receive $500,000 and Cardinal Center will receive the other half-million dollars. The money will be paid out over 30 years.

In addition, two $15,000 jackpot holes will be located 126 yards from the tee. A hole in one on a jackpot hole earns the golfer $7,500 and Cardinal Center $7,500. A variety of other prizes will be available for the top 10 finalists June 30.

R.R. Donnelley is the premier sponsor at $5,000, and their employees volunteer their time to help with the event. Lake City Bank, Pill Box Pharmacies, Zimmer Inc., Todd and Jan Dawson, Teghtmeyer ACE Hardware, Cooper Commercial Graphics, Wildman Uniform & Linen, Kosciusko REMC, Chore Time Brock, Winona Powder LLC, 1st Source Bank, Crowe Chizek, Symmetry Medical, Medtronics Sofamor Danek, Frazzetta Financial Services, GTP Financial Services and IKON Office Solutions already have committed to being sponsors of the event.

The event requires more than 150 volunteers, of which R.R. Donnelley and Sons provides half. Assistance is still needed for the shoot-out in monetary sponsorships as well as food and other supply donations. Volunteers are also needed to help register people wanting to take qualification shots for the $1 million, measure distances at the qualifying hole or other related jobs.
