The 2013 annual Cancer Care Fund of Kosciusko County Gala and Auction has been scheduled for Sept. 7.
The event to raise funds for the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund is from 6 to 11 p.m. at Tippy Lake Country Club in Leesburg.
The fund, administered by K21 Health Foundation, provides assistance to financially-eligible residents of Kosciusko County who are suffering from cancer.
The purpose of the fund is to relieve some of the financial strain that often accompanies cancer diagnosis.
The assistance provided includes needs such as rent or mortgage payments, utilities, insurance, food, car payments and prescription medications.
The theme for this year’s gala is “Color the Cure” and will focus on five types of cancer that effect Kosciusko County.
The color themes for decorations are white for lung cancer, pink for breast cancer, dark blue for colon cancer, lime for lymphoma and periwinkle for stomach cancer.
More than $135,000 was raised in 2012 by the Cancer Care Fund of Kosciusko County through Idol Nite, the annual golf outing, annual gala and auction, memorials and other donation, according to Rebecca Spitler, gala and auction committee chair.
There have been 239 invitations mailed for the gala and auction and people can still register to attend.
The cost to attend the fundraiser is $125 per person. To register contact Jennifer Stewart, K21 Health Foundation, at [email protected]
Hors d’oeuvres and the silent auction begins in the lobby and main bar at 6 p.m. as well as guest photos by Bob List Photography in the lower level of the country club.
Welcome and invocation will begin at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m.
Dee Salmons is this year’s featured speaker and will speak at 7:30 p.m. during the gala. Salmons and her husband Steve were lifelong Kosciusko residents who utilized the Cancer Care Fund to assist with housing and auto expenses during Steve’s battle with cancer. Steve was diagnosed with colorectal cancer on Christmas Eve 2011 and lost his battle with cancer Oct. 24, 2012.
2013 Idol Nite Judge’s Choice winner Kylene Crabb will perform at 7:45 p.m.
The live auction will begin at 8 p.m. and the silent auction ends and music and dancing will be at 8:45 p.m.
Some of the live auction items are: four pit passes to a 2014 NASCAR nationwide series race; dinner for eight at the chef’s table with wine pairings at Cerulean, Indianapolis; gift certificate for a wall portrait on canvas to be photographed at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City; one week stay at the Bill Beemer Family condo on Anna Marie Island, Fla.; and a Marco Island vacation and dinner for six at the Marco Island Yacht Club.
