He was born March 24, 1926, in Plymouth, to Russell and Grace Coplen Filson. On Sept. 22, 1946, he married Lamora Seymour, who survives.
A lifetime resident of Marshall County, he retired from farming and had been a machinery mechanic and salesman. As a faithful member of the Inwood United Methodist Church, he had served as a janitor, deacon, lay leader and song leader. In his spare time he enjoyed his cats and creating things with woodworking. He was an honored U.S. veteran serving during World War II in the 773rd Tank Destroyer division as a gunner.
Also surviving are two sons, Dennis (and spouse Linda) Filson and Stanley (and spouse Lynne) Filson, all of Plymouth; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathryn (and spouse Virgil) Kluwicki, Willis Port, Texas, and Carol Thompson, Alcahone, Calif.; and a brother, Banks (and spouse Rudy) Filson, Plymouth. He was preceded in death by a sister, Theada Carlisle.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Inwood United Methodist Church, 11211 Hawthrone Road, with Pastors Gail Law and Brad Thornton officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bourbon.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, Ind.
