NORTH MANCHESTER - Byron W. Penrod, 82, of rural North Manchester, died at 2 a.m. Dec. 23, 2008, at his home.

He was born July 20, 1926, in North Manchester, to Clarence and Pluma Keister Penrod. On Sept. 2, 1949, at Yellow Creek Lake, he married Lola Belle Parker, who died Oct. 23, 2007.

He was born and lived on the family farm most of his life. He was a 1944 Chester High School graduate. He retired from Moorman's Feed Company in Bluffton and Urbana after 25 years, and was a life-long dairy farmer. He was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church, the Wabash County Farm Bureau, and the Dairy Farmers of America. He enjoyed singing and sang bass in a barbershop quartet. He was a loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by eight children: Marsha (and spouse John) Mort, Darrell (and spouse Marilyn) Penrod, Galen (and spouse Renee) Penrod, all of North Manchester; LaDonna (and spouse Kris) Biehl, Urbana; Brenda (and spouse Thomas) DeWerth, Hillsborough, N.C.; Ronald Penrod, Wabash; Rita (and spouse Glen) Penrod Helgeson, Golden Valley, Minn.; and Karla (and spouse Joel) Yeager, South Whitley; three sisters: Trula Callahan, Laketon; Rachel (and spouse Randall) Webb, North Manchester; and Lulabelle Clapp, Gridley, Calif.; a brother, Ralph (and spouse Linda) Penrod, Pierceton; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his dog, Molly. He was preceeded in death by two brothers, Joe and Vaughn Penrod, and his sister Wanda Munson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at North Manchester United Methodist Church, 306 E. 2nd St., North Manchester, with the Revs. David Overmyer and Larry Ray officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.

Calling is from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
