ROCHESTER - Byron P. Leininger, 83, of 815 E. Rochester St., Akron, who lived at the address since 1958, died at 10:03 a.m. Feb. 16, 2011, in his residence.

He was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Akron, to Ralph and Gretchen Paschall Leininger. On Dec. 28, 1948, in Rochester, he married Virginia Harkins, who died Aug. 26, 2010.

He lived all of his life in the Akron community. He graduated in 1945 from Akron High School. He owned and operated the Akron Locker Plan. He went to work for his father in 1947 at the Akron Locker Plant, and in 1975 incorporated the business and renamed it Leininger and Sons Meat Packers. He retired in 1991. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947. He served as corporal in the Army and was honorably discharged July 31, 1947. He is a former member of the Akron United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Greg V. (and spouse Janet) Leininger, Wabash; a daughter, Anne A. (and spouse Jay) Dietrich, Highland Park, Ill.; four grandchildren: Alexis (and spouse Gary) Young, North Manchester; Ian Leininger, Wabash; Atticus and Emily Dietrich, Highland Park; two step-grandchildren, Michael and Ashley McGriff, Wabash; and a great-grandchild, Lincoln Young, North Manchester. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Scott Leininger; and brother, Robert Leininger, who died in 1981.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Earl-Love Funeral Home, Akron, with the Rev. Mimi Tucker, of Akron United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Akron Cemetery with full military rites by the U.S. Army.

Calling is one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
