He was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Warsaw, to Elmer E. and Blanche Shamp Shoemaker. On June 12, 1948, in Warsaw, he married Nancy Ann Boggs, who survives.
A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, he taught social studies, psychology and marriage prep at Warsaw Community School Corp., retiring in 1986. He also coached basketball. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Warsaw; Claypool Lions Club; and American Legion Post 49; and a life member of Lakeland Arts; Historical Society; National Wildlife Federation; Phi Delta Emeritus; Kosciusko Foundation (Scholarship Donor); Indiana State Basketball Association; and Teacher of Warsaw Schools. He was a Kosciusko County Convention/Visitors Center teacher and was involved with Mobile Meals. He graduated from Burket High School, Manchester College and Ball State University. He was a World War II U.S. Marine Corp veteran.
Also surviving are a son, Steven Shoemaker, Evansville; and two granddaughters.
Services were at 1 p.m. today at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with Pastor Steve Austin officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
