Jerry and the former Sonja Sweeney were married Sept. 11, 1964, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bellefontaine, Ohio, by the Rev. Jerry L. Schmalenberger.
They are both retired.
The couple are the parents of two children, Kevin and Karmen Byrd, both of Warsaw.
The family and friends celebrated the occasion with cards, gifts and a dinner together.
The couple is planning a trip to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., where they spent their first year together.
