BYC Madness returns to the Wagon Wheel Theater Friday and organizers expect it to be bigger than last year.
The fundraiser for Baker Youth Club starts at 5:30 p.m. with a pregame tailgate, and tip-off is at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $40 and are available by pre-order or at the door.
Pre-order tickets are available at byc-madness.chirrpy.com
There will be live and silent auctions in addition to dinner, with beer and wine available for purchase. Prizes include a one-week stay at Marco Island, an America’s Cup yacht sailing experience in San Francisco, a Napa Valley back roads and railroads wine trip in San Francisco and Indianapolis Colts suite tickets.
During the main event, high school and middle school basketball players will shoot for the most free throws in a minute, with attendees sponsoring each shot. They’ll be cheered on by a squad of 28 Warsaw cheerleaders.
Representing their high schools will be Elizabeth Jackson, Wawasee junior; Madi Graham, Warsaw freshman; Alex Clark, Wawasee junior; and Nate Pearl, Warsaw senior. They will be joined for the first time this year by several middle school players – Madie Ryman, Edgwood 7th grader; Emily Peterson, Lakeview 7th grader; Jack Tucker, Edgewood 8th grader; and Ross Johnson, Lakeview 8th grader.
Last year’s event drew 400 people and raised $45,000 for BYC after-school programs, according to Executive Director Tracy Furnivall and Program Director Tamara Drake. It was the first year Madness was split off from the annual awards ceremony.
BYC sees about 320 kids a night at after-school programs at Claypool, Leesburg, Milford and Syracuse elementary schools, Wawasee Middle School and the main Warsaw location. It’s an increase of about 20 kids from last year, with the Warsaw location seeing the biggest growth, the two noted.
Food and drink vendors this year are American Table, Dairy Queen, Buffalo Wild Wings, Jason and Carissa Nolin, Maple Leaf Farms, Crazy Day Gourmet, Top Dogs, Nelson Beverage and Mad Anthony’s.

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) are for people over the age of 70.5 years old. Unlike other distributions, which are taxed at ordinary income tax rates, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) allow for a tax-free distribution from an IRA, provided that the distribution goes directly to a qualified charity.
