Readers in general. If you are on a Medicare advantage plan or know someone that is on a Medicare advantage plan, I encourage you to take this advice. You must do your due diligence when selecting your plan.
My parents have Humana. We thought we had done our due diligence. We made sure their physician was contracted with them. Check. KCH was contracted with them. Check. Pharmacy was contracted with them. Check. Nursing Homes in case of care after a hospital stay. Check.
My father had to go to a nursing home after his extensive stay in the hospital. Humana says he can go to Millers Merry Manor of Warsaw. Wrong!
According to Miller's in Warsaw, Humana pulled the contract for them. My father is now in a nursing home 20 to 30 miles away. We now have to drive this distance every time to visit my father.
With open enrollment approaching, I encourage you to do your due diligence. Check the boxes like we did but then go one step further. Call the providers and facilities in question to make sure they are indeed providers for the programs. You may be signing up for one thing and get something different all together.
