Walston Attends Law Institute
LAS VEGAS – Warsaw elder law attorney Wayne Walston attended the 2011 National Aging and Law Institute held in Las Vegas, Nevada May 18-21.
The Institute was co-sponsored by the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, of which Walston is a member, the AARP Foundation, the Center for Medicare Advocacy, the Center for Social Gerontology and the American Bar Association Commission on Law and Aging.  The Institute was attended by more than 250 elder law attorneys from across the nation.
Sessions focused on recent health care reforms in laws respecting Medicare and Medicaid, on pension benefits for war-time veterans, and on asset protection planning for the aged and disabled. 
Walston is a partner in the law firm of Beers Mallers Backs & Salin, which has its headquarters in Fort Wayne and branch offices in LaGrange and Warsaw. Walston focuses his practice on elder law, estate planning and Medicaid and special needs planning for the elderly and persons with disabilities.

Peabody Retirement Celebrates Hutton
NORTH MANCHESTER – Elaine Hutton celebrated her 75th birthday with her friends and co- workers at Peabody Retirement Community. In addition to her birthday party, Hutton celebrated her retirement Friday.  She has worked two jobs for 40 years and yesterday, she started enjoying her retirement full time from Peabody Retirement Community.
Hutton started out at Peabody as an assistant cook in 1987 where she worked for three years; transferred to housekeeping and then on to facility services in linens where she stayed and completed 23 years of services. Stephanie Judy, director of facility services, said, “It has been a pleasure and joy working with someone so dedicated and caring at Peabody.  When someone works here that long they become family and that is exactly what I consider her.”
Hutton has three children, who are all grown. She also has six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her plans for retirement include enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as crossword puzzles in the winter.

Peabody Retirement Community Celebrates With ‘Peabody Kids’
NORTH MANCHESTER – Peabody Kids Childcare is a registered ministry that offers kids quality childcare and preschool along with intergenerational programming to employee’s children and the children of the community. For the Childcare and Preschool Program, the age is 15 months to 5.
For the Before and After School and Summer Program, the age is kindergarten through sixth grade. As part of the program, it offers all of the children chapel time with Sue Babovec in the Peabody Chapel, daily planned activities with the residents, story time at the local library and educational field trips throughout the year.
Scheduled activities this summer include a trip to Science Central in June, a fashion and style show in July and a resident and children art show in August. Each month will also include a field trip combined with our Peabody Kids and residents.
Mindy Hudson, director of children services said, “I have had the pleasure of directing children services for the past two and half years. I enjoy working with children and I love to see the residents faces light up when the children come over to visit them.  With our Intergenerational program, I hope that the children learn to respect and gain important knowledge from our resident friends at Peabody Retirement Community and that the residents will learn to appreciate the childrenís enthusiasm, joy and laughter. Together may they each grow and learn about Christ’s love for the world.”

Vector Marketing Opens In Warsaw
Vector Marketing has opened a new sales office in Warsaw run by Vector branch manager Eric Stearley.  The office, located at 307 W. Market St., Ste. 3, will be used for the recruitment and training of new sales representatives as well as for team meetings where additional training and mentorship is provided. 
Sales representatives market Vector’s product, CUTCO Cutlery, through in-home presentations and use the sales office as home base.
As an independent contractor, Vector branch managers individually own their Vector sales office. Being a Vector BM allows Stearley the opportunity to get experience as an entrepreneur while having guidance and support from corporate headquarters.
Most branch managers are college students who have excelled in the business and are given the opportunity to own their own business for the summer months.  While some branch offices become district offices and stay open all year, branch offices are designed to close at the conclusion of the summer.  Following Vectorís strict promote from within policy, all managers begin as sales representatives. 
As is the case with all managers in the company, Stearley began as a sales representative selling Cutco and worked his way up through the company becoming a senior field sales leader and assistant manager before receiving his most recent promotion. Stearley began working with the company in 2010 in Bloomington.
“The most valuable aspects of my Vector experience have been the leadership and public speaking skills I've gained.  The management experience I'm being given at such a young age will certainly help me in my career,” said Stearley.   

Promotions At Lake City Radio
Two new promotions have been announced at Lake City Radio.
107.3 WRSW Morning Man/Account Representative Jim Brennan is moving into the advertising sales department on a full-time basis.  Brennan had been splitting his time between the WRSW Morning Show and the advertising department.  The move will allow Brennan to spend all of his time working with his clients to create effective multi-platform advertising campaigns that will help build their businesses.
Concurrently, Lake City Radio part-time personality Kenny Edwards has been promoted to morning show host for 107.3 WRSW.  Edwards is a radio veteran whose previous experience includes on-air positions in Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Terre Haute and Evansville.
Edwards will take over the WRSW Morning Show  Monday.

Muta Promoted At Lake City Bank
The board of directors of Lake City Bank has announced the promotion of Abbe Muta to vice president/merchant and cardholder services manager.
Muta has 13 years of banking experience, including 12 years with Lake City Bank.  Her previous duties included serving as cash management/commercial administrative assistant, cash management officer, cash management assistant vice president, health savings account manager and assistant vice president, merchant and cardholder services assistant vice president and assistant vice president/merchant and cardholder services manager.
Muta is a graduate of Columbia City Joint High School and resides with her family in Winona Lake.  She is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and serves on the stewardship committee.  She also serves as secretary of the board and chairman of the marketing committee for Combined Community Services, is a volunteer for Mobile Meals, and a member of the Builders and Contractors Association of Northeast Indiana.

Smith Earns CMRP Designation
Gina M. Smith, Leesburg, has earned the designation Certified Materials and Resource Professional by the American Hospital Association.
CMRP is a national credential that distinguishes an individual as being among the elite in healthcare materials management.
Smith, a Ball State University graduate, is the national affiliate program director for Adventist HealthCare of Maryland.
She presently manages more than 200 affiliate entities in 24 states who utilize Adventist's contract portfolio with Premier Inc., the nation's largest healthcare group purchasing organization.
To earn the CMRP designation an individual must satisfy eligibility requirements which include professional experience, education, adherence to the AHA standards of conduct and successful completion of the certification exam. CMRP testing assesses competence in the areas of procurement, value analysis, inventory and distribution management, information systems and data management, finance, strategic planning, leadership and contract management and compliance.
Smith has worked in healthcare group purchasing for 17 years. Previous to her current position at Adventist, she was implementation manager and a regional territory manager for Hospital Purchasing Service of  Michigan for 15 years. She was also director of marketing at Kosciusko Community Hospital for three years.

Bean Joins Tower Bank
Tower Private Advisors recently announced that Nancy Bean has been hired as assistant vice president, trust officer.
She brings to Tower more than 10 years of trust administration expertise, specializing in special needs trusts, most recently with Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. in Fort Wayne, IN.
Bean earned a bachelor's degree from Purdue University, and earned her CTFA in October 2008.
She is past president of the Fort Wayne Estate Planning Council and treasurer of Mental Health America.

Bontrager Promoted At Tower
On May 19, Wendell L. Bontrager was promoted to executive vice president of Tower Financial Corporation.
Bontrager continues to serve as chief lending officer and executive vice president for Tower Bank and Trust Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tower Financial Corporation.
He joined the bank in July 1999 as a private banking relationship manager and has served as chief lending officer since May 2008.

Woods Recognized With JA Award
Dan Woods recently was recognized with the prestigious JA Golden Achievement Award for Excellence in Economic Education by Junior Achievement. Woods is an insurance agent at Hall & Marose Insurance.
 The Golden Achievement Award recognizes his outstanding commitment to Junior Achievement's business and education partnership in the community. Woods started volunteering with Junior Achievement in 1998. Woods has volunteered at Warsaw Community High School for more than 10 years.
He is a great volunteer because he has a true passion for mentoring students, said teachers.
Woods was recognized for taking the JA materials and wrapping it around what he is passionate about - making the information come alive for students.  Teachers Amy Riley and Dan Kuhn said Woods is always upbeat and positive with the students, he gives great advice and makes learning fun and that he is a super volunteer.
Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana, dedicated to educating and inspiring young people to succeed in a global economy, serves a 25-county region.
With the support of more than 5,000 positive adult role models who volunteer their time, Junior Achievement provides students in kindergarten through 12th grade with experiences in workforce readiness, entrepreneurship education and financial literacy and motivates them to achieve their personal, educational and career goals.
Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana's in-school learning sequence and its JA BizTown and JA Finance Park programs will reach more than 97,000 students across northern Indiana this year through a unique partnering of business and education.

Microsoft Event Nets Full House For Chamber Of Commerce
The Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce recently partnered with Microsoft to provide a workshop that was hosted by Certified Microsoft Partner, Intrasect Technologies to focus on Office 2010 business tips and tricks.
With nearly 30 attendees, it was a full house in the Chamber conference room.
Each attendee learned about the benefits of upgrading their software to Windows Office Professional 2010 and received tips on using Windows 7 and Outlook 2010. At the conclusion of the workshop, a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate was given to Sarah Frame of Heartline Pregnancy Center and a copy of MS Office Professional 2010 was given to LuAnn Tennant of Creighton Brothers.
The door prizes were provided by Microsoft.

Williamson Promoted At LCB
The board of directors of Lake City Bank has announced the promotion of Tabitha Willimason to vice president and treasury management sales officer in Lake City Bank’s corporate and institutional services department.
Williamson has 10 years banking experience with Lake City Bank. Her previous duties include serving as regional float and cash management administrative assistant sales associate as well as various positions in electronic banking and most recently, assistant vice president and treasury management sales office.
Williamson received an associate’s degree from Ivy Tech State College and a bachelor’s degree from Grace College as well as a CTP certification. She is a member of the Association of Financial Professionals and is active with the Boys and Girls Club of Kosciusko County and Junior Achievement.
