Sheila Burner and Jason McSherry were honored Friday night with the Kosciusko County Republican Hall Of Fame awards.
Jean Northenor, Hall Of Fame award founder, presented the awards. The award is presented to those in the community who contribute to the Republican party and was started in the early 1970s.
Randy Girod, GOP chair, congratulated Burner and McSherry.
“We have a treasure trove of great, dynamic, principled, reliable and dependable Republicans in this county, and two of them are definitely Sheila and Jason,” Girod said.
Burner is the Wayne Township trustee. Northenor said Burner has worked behind the scenes for many years and has always been there but never expected anything.
“It’s a shock to receive the award,” Burner said.
McSherry  served as Kosciusko County clerk from 2009 to 2013, and Northenor said he has been a part of the GOP party since his youth.
“He’s always there to give a helping hand,” Northenor said.
McSherry served on the Seward Township Advisory Board for six years, and was county coordinator for Mike Pence For Indiana and precinct committeeman.
“It is certainly an honor to be inducted into the hall of fame with such a great group of people,” McSherry said.
Jackie Walorski, 2nd district congresswoman, was the featured speaker. She attended the dinner with her husband, Dean, and said she was delighted to attend the dinner.
Walorski spoke about Ebola. She said she signed onto a bipartisan group that is asking the president that it needs to be mandatory to ban flights that are coming from other nations to the U.S. where the disease is widespread and moving quickly.
“We are dealing with the disease that the president said would not come into the shores of this nation, and now it is here and there are uncertain questions,” Walorski said.
She said another concern is that the president has not come out with a strategy to defeat ISIS and she is concerned about that.
“I am making sure we keep connected with our leadership,” Walorski said.
She said she sits on the Armed Services committee, and one of the reasons she ran for Congress is to protect national security.
“National security to me is the one constitutional mandate that every member of Congress has when we raise our right hand, and it should be taken very seriously,” Walorski said.
Girod announced a visit from Governor Mike Pence at the Kosciusko County Courthouse will be Nov. 1 at 1:30 p.m.
