Michael Lee Eppenbaugh, 34, of 5049 Reo Ave., South Bend, was arrested at 4:59 p.m. Thursday for burglary, a level 3 felony; theft, a level 6 felony; and possession of a narcotic, a level 6 felony. He is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $20,250 bond.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Officer, on Nov. 2, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officer Christopher Anderson responded to a burglary in progress at a Warsaw residence.
Anderson spoke with the resident who advised he and his wife arrived home and observed a blue Ford Mustang backed up to the side door of their residence. The homeowner parked his truck in front of the Mustang, blocking it from leaving. He approached the back sliding door of the home and found it had been forced open.
When he entered the home he confronted a male subject that he identified as Michael Eppenbaugh, a person he has known for 20 years. Eppenbaugh then ran out the front door of the residence, got into the Ford Mustang and allegedly drove into the homeowner’s Ford truck two to three times causing damage. Eppenbaugh fled and the victim tried to chase him, but lost him.
Anderson spoke with the wife of the homeowner, who advised Eppenbaugh came out of the residence and confronted her. She had an IV in her arm that went directly to her heart, and Eppenbaugh allegedly tried to pull the IV out, which would have opened the artery causing her to bleed to death. During the confrontation, Eppenbaugh attempted to push her down, causing pain and hurting her knee, swelling to the IV area in her arm, bruises and pain to her left wrist and severe pain to her thumb.
The female victim also advised police she observed items inside the blue Ford Mustang that had been stolen from their residence, including a wallet; coin collection valued at $3,000; a safe that contained $3,000 in savings bonds, a gold diamond ring; the prescription medication Ziram, a legend drug; morphine, a schedule II controlled narcotic drug; hydrocodone, a scheduled II controlled substance; Valium, a schedule IV controlled substance; and Nuvigil, a schedule IV controlled substance. The estimated total cost of the items is valued between $10,000 and $15,000.[[In-content Ad]]
