Burglary Arrests Lead To Solving Other Crimes

Two men arrested for burglary last week reportedly were involved in at least 17 other burglaries in the area.

Justin Andrew Chalmers, 19, of 319 S. Indiana St., Warsaw, and Brock Anthony O'Brien, 20, of 701 W. Winona Avenue, Warsaw, were arrested Nov. 6 for burglary to a business, theft from a business and theft/receiving stolen property for allegedly breaking into Paradise Pawn Shop in Winona Lake.

The pair originally were arrested when Warsaw Police Department Corp. Scott Quillen saw them on bicycles dressed in dark clothing in the early morning hours of Nov. 6. After questioning, the men allegedly admitted to breaking into Paradise Pawn Shop.

During subsequent interviews, one of the men allegedly admitted the two have been involved in at least 17 additional Warsaw burglaries in the past two months.

Both men currently are being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on two counts of burglary to a church, a Class B felony, and one count of burglary to a business, a Class C felony. Their bonds have been set at $30,000 each. Additional charges against the men are pending.

According to the Warsaw Police Department, the men burglarized Solis, Mennonite Church of Warsaw, Pendry Powder Coatings Inc., Cozy Cottage, North Lake Auto, Warsaw Cut Glass, Tokens-N-Tickets, Video Word, Quick Clean Sales, La Joyita, Sparkman Auto Sales, Smith Appliances, First Assembly Church and Faith Ministries and Paradise Music.

The men reportedly burglarized some of the businesses twice, including Warsaw Cut Glass, Pendry Powder Coatings Inc., Paradise Music and First Assembly Church and Faith Ministries.

Warsaw Cut Glass, 505 S. Detroit St., Warsaw, was broken into Oct. 16 and Oct. 19. A total of $929.15 was stolen from the business.

Pendry Powder Coatings Inc., 275 W. CR 250N, Warsaw, lost $441 in burglaries on Oct. 9 and Oct. 19.

On Nov. 3 and Nov. 6, First Assembly Church and Faith Ministries, of 2212 and 2214 E. Winona Avenue, Warsaw, fell victim to the burglars, losing a total of $300.

Paradise Music was burglarized Oct. 3 and Oct. 6. The total loss from the burglaries was $1,931.

Solis, 122 S. Buffalo St., was broken into sometime between Oct. 6 and Oct. 9, suffering a loss of about $500, while the Cozy Cottage, 1821 E. Market St., was burglarized Oct. 11 and lost $250.

On Oct. 11, the burglars hit North Lake Auto, 995 N. Lake St., and took around $1,515, while Sparkman Auto Sales, 1624 E. Winona Avenue, lost $2,690 on Oct. 31.

Approximately $290 was stolen from Tokens-N-Tickets, 321 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw, Oct. 16, while Video World, 828 E. Winona Avenue, Warsaw, lost $800 in an Oct. 25 burglary.

The men reportedly damaged a safe and stole $20 plus a set of keys from Quick Clean Sales Oct. 31, and took approximately $750 from La Joyita, 803 W. Winona Avenue, Warsaw, the same night.

On Nov. 3, Smith Appliances, 1119 E. Winona Avenue, Warsaw, reported the theft of around $64.

The Mennonite Church of Warsaw, 1250 Husky Trail, Warsaw, reported a burglary Oct. 9. The church suffered an undetermined loss.

Editor, Times-Union: It is glaringly obvious to anyone with functioning brain cells that today’s MAGA (formerly known as the Grand Old Party) has only one strategy to win the 2024 election: divide and conquer and pull the wool over the voting public’s eyes.
