Thousands of children in Kosciusko and Fulton counties have stayed warm because of the Builders Association of Kosciusko-Fulton Counties.

Starting in 1996, the Builders Association began handing out coats to elementary school children from Syracuse to Rochester.

This year, they topped more than $100,000 to be used to buy coats.

In the 14 years the builders association has purchased coats for children, they not only raised $101,606.77 but gave out 4,518 coats.

The main source of money comes from the Builders Association's annual golf outing.

In the beginning, members were asked to just donate money.

Since 1996, the Builders Association has donated coats to 20 different elementary schools in the Rochester, Tippecanoe Valley, Warsaw and Wawasee school districts.

During that time, the Builders Association has received tons of thank-you notes from both students and administrators.

"The kids were so excited to receive them and are so thankful to be warmed by them each day," wrote Christie Holst, student services coordinator at North Webster Elementary.

One student wrote, "Thank you for my winter coat I like the color blue."

In 2009, Cindy Douglass, Caston Elementary principal, said, "I just wish those of you who work so hard to provide the funding for these items could receive the joy of seeing the faces of the children when they receive these gifts."

"Most of us live in such affluence, that it can be difficult to imagine that children in our community would be cold in the winter," said Jefferson Elementary School Principal Dennis Duncan. "The fact is though, that without people like you, many children would go without a coat and other necessities."[[In-content Ad]]This year's event sponsors for the annual golf outing were Carter Lumber, CT Custom Home Building & Remodeling, J.C. Hamman Construction, Lake City Bank, Premier Concepts and Wetzel Insurance Agency.

Silver sponsors were Comfort Control Heating & Cooling, First Federal Savings Bank, Rochester; Lawyers Title Insurance, Mutual Bank, Phend & Brown, Warsaw Masonry/Glamour Pools.

Bronze sponsors were Babsco Electric Supply, Tom Brouvont & Son Builder & Developers; Builders Mart; Investor's Realty; Kehler Law Firm; R.W. Kidd Construction; Kuert Concrete; Lake Area Promotional Specialties; Millennium Sounds, Miller Brothers Builders; Millers' Building Supply; Mission Contracting by Bruce Jackson; Mullet's Seamless Guttering; Northwestern Mutual Financial Network; PNC; Polyvinyl Sales Inc.; Renewal Homes LLC; Signature Building 4 Design; Skyline Builders; Tower Bank & Trust.

The Lawless Party
Editor, Times-Union: Democrats have a long history of supporting lawlessness and they have the nerve to say no one is above the law. At times they act like spoiled children that expect to get their way all the time even if they have been naughty.
