Brunos Open 'Old Oak' Mini-Golf In North Webster
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
NORTH WEBSTER - Hole No. 4 is a vicious uphill par three with a dogleg right. Rough in the middle of the fairway and a sand bunker off the back of the hole are sure to trap the most experienced golfer's ball.
No. 4 is just one of the many challenging holes at Old Oak Miniature Golf Course. North of Scrub-A-Dub Laundry on Main Street (Ind. 13), across from the old Adventureland, the course opened to the public June 11.
Owners Dennis and Chris Bruno wanted to provide a family-oriented activity for their Scrub-A-Dub customers as well as for the community.
So far, the course is popular with folks waiting for their laundry to finish, Chris said.
"They just send their kids out to the course. It's much quieter inside the laundromat."
Each hole's "fairway" borders are curved with movable holes, presenting one set of challenges one visit and others the next. There are rocks to negotiate in the middle of a few "fairways." A pond on the west end feeds a waterfall and a stone-lined brook.
A magnificent white oak stands as the course centerpiece, offering shade throughout the day.
The Brunos held a course-naming contest this spring, narrowing more than 100 entries received to a top 10. Scrub-A-Dub employees then voted on the name, with "Old Oak" submitted by Kenny Ashton of North Webster. Ashton received a $25 Scrub-A-Dub gift certificate and 25 free games at the course.
Course hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, the same as Scrub-A-Dub.
An open house is set for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with adult games for $3.50 and children ages 12 and younger, $2. Children under 3 years old play free that day.
Parking also will be available at the Ace Pest Control parking lot, north of the laundry.
Regular game prices are $4.75 for adults; 12 and younger and seniors 55 and older, $4; and children under age 3, free. [[In-content Ad]]
